Ryan Schmidt is at the cutting edge of 3D printing, both his MSC and PHD were both reflected in his interest of 3D modelling and printing.
He went from an Assistant Software Developer to becoming the Head of Design and Fabrication Group at Autodesk.
He is an Associate Professor at Toronto University and has published numerous which are related to 3D printing.
He recently left Autodesk to start his own company called “Gradient Space”. They focus on 3D design tools especially 3D User Interfaces, Geometric Computing, 3D Data Structures and Algorithms.
Gradient Space has a very good overview of the industry and are happy to share their knowledge with you. From simple things like their opinion on everything to do with 3D.
They have developed Simplex which is a new visual medium catering for Virtual Reality (VR) and Computer Aided Design (CAD).
They are hoping to incorporate in the future the HTC Vive, Drag-and-Drop Symmetry, Booleans and 3D Curve Tools.
The company has an Open Source ethos and they see that Additive Manufacturing (AM) to be a big part of the future, by using their own software to solve real life problems.
